I've spent years working in and around ammonia refrigeration systems — conducting compliance audits, developing PSM programs, sizing PRVs, facilitating PHAs, and watching facilities operate within uncomfortably thin margins above the 10,000-pound regulatory threshold without knowing it.

Why I built NH3Edge
During a compliance audit at a cold storage facility, I calculated their ammonia charge using the IRC methodology — accounting for every vessel, pipe run, evaporator, and condenser. The result was 9,340 pounds. Their previous assessment said 8,800 pounds.
That 540-pound discrepancy wasn't negligence — it was the difference between a static calculation done on a winter day and an operating system measured in summer. They were 660 pounds from the PSM threshold and had no idea.
I started asking: what if they could see this number in real time? What if, instead of trusting a calculation that was 18 months old, they had a live dashboard showing exactly how many pounds of ammonia were in their system at every moment — broken down by vessel, trended over time, and automatically alerting them as they approached the threshold?
That's NH3Edge. Not a software product bolted onto general IoT infrastructure — a purpose-built system designed specifically for ammonia refrigeration, with the thermodynamic models and regulatory context built in from the ground up.
